DRUGS & DRIVING NEW LEGISLATION FROM 2ND MARCH 2015

Drugs & Driving New Legislation - A new offence of driving with certain specified drugs in excess of specified levels in the body will come into force on 2nd March 2015. This offence is in addition to the existing rules on drug impaired driving and fitness to drive. The legislation also provides for a statutory “medical defence” for this new offence, for patients taking their medicines in accordance with instructions. As well as illegal drug use, the new law covers some prescription drugs.  It is important that prescribers and patients are aware of the new legislation.
