Screening Programmes

As well as Practice Screening Clinics for Cervical smears etc our Patients are also invited to participate in external screening programmes such as the Bowel Screening Programme and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening.

Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Information

This screening Programme is for Patient aged between 60 and 69.  Patients who fall into this age bracket will receive a screening test by post.  English language versions of how to use the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Test kit leaflet are sent out with each test kit.  If you require a leaflet in an alternative language please contact the Bowel Screening Programme Co-ordinator on 0800 707 6060.

All results for patients in this Practice area are screened at Rugby St Cross Hospital.

If you are over 70 and haven't received your free kit yet, please call 0800 707 60 60 to request one.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme Information

AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) screening is offered free of charge to all men in the year they turn 65.  The condition is most common in men aged 65 and above, this is why the NHS invites them for screening.

Men are six times more likely to have this type of aneurysm than women.  The chance of having an aneurysm increases with age.  This can also increase if you:

  • Smoke
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Your Brother, Sister or Parent has, or has had, an abdominal aortic aneurysm

AAA screening is carried out using a simple test called an ultrasound scan, this test is very quick and usually lasts less than 10 minutes.
